A slab leak gives itself away slowly. A warm patch on the tile, a water bill that climbed for no reason, or running water audible with every tap shut. Underneath, water has been spreading through the sub-floor and up the bottom of the walls for weeks, which is exactly the path we describe here.
We deal with the water. A licensed plumber deals with the pipe, either by breaking out the section or rerouting the line overhead, and the two jobs run alongside each other rather than one after the other. Extraction starts as soon as the line is isolated.
Drying a floor over slab is slower than drying a wall. Concrete absorbs water and gives it back reluctantly, and any new flooring laid over a slab that has not been tested will cup or lift within a season. Weeks of hidden moisture under a floor is also the most common reason we end up doing mold testing on a house that looked fine.
